Kleine Scheidegg

The Kleine Scheidegg in Grindelwald, known as the place where cogwheel railways meet. Despite the large Alpine railway station, the site is considered one of the most beautiful in Grindelwald. For those who want to be close to nature, this is the place to be.

Location / Place

The Kleine Scheidegg is a Swiss passport but it is not allowed to drive on it. The pass lies at 2061 m above sea level between the Eiger and the Lauberhorn. On the pass there are various restaurants and also a large 4-star hotel called Bellevue des Alpes. There are also several sports shops and souvenir shops. In addition to all the shops, the square also serves as a station for the Wengernalp and Jungfrau Railways. The square is also a popular destination for hikers and various events. On Kleine Scheidegg you can enjoy nature and a wonderful view. With a direct view of the triumvirate of Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau, it is one of the most beautiful vantage points in Grindelwald. We can definitely recommend a visit during your stay. Should you stay with us in Chalet Anemone, we will be happy to give you tips on which hiking paths are the most beautiful.

History

Since 1893 the Wengernalp Railway has been running from Lautenbrunnen and Wengen via Kleine Scheidegg to Grindelwald. The first train connection and the Grand Tour laid the first stone for the tourist use of the pass. From 1912 the line from Kleine Scheidegg to the Jungfraujoch was put into service alongside the existing railway. From the opening of the new line, the number of visitors to the Jungfraujoch increases every year. The opening of the V-Bahn in 2020 will also mark another milestone. A whole 45 minutes can then be saved on one journey.
