Alpine Cheese Festival on the Grosse Scheidegg

Alpkäsefest auf der Gr. Scheidegg

Alpine Cheese Festival on the Grosse Scheidegg

The Annual Alpine Cheese Festival on Grosse Scheidegg took place again on 14.09.2019 and looks back on the good season. As every year the produced alp cheese, Mutschli, Eiger and butter from the own milk of Alp Grosse Scheidegg was presented. But not only cheese will be presented. Self-made jam, tea, plait and sausages are also sold by the farmers.

Something about history:

The Alpkäsefest takes place every year, at the end of summer or at the beginning of autumn and the farmers present their yearly produced goods. Every year 400 animals are rounded up on the alp in the area. Among them are 166 cows, 96 goats, 20 Gitzi and 116 cattle. The cows are milked 2 times a day in bad and good weather. After the alp cheese festival, the last days, sometimes weeks, are spent on the alp and then the animals are bridled down to the village. At the Alpauf and the Abzug there is a cattle show.

Cattle show means that the cows are festively decorated and the most beautiful animals get prizes. In the end, this is an added value for the sale.
