Ballenberg

The famous open-air museum in Hofstetten near Brienz in the Bernese Oberland. Also The Ballenberg shows various parts of the country and historical buildings, which were also imported from the respective parts of the country. The area extends over 66 hectares and is dotted with over 110 old buildings, farms, gardens and fields. Very unique are also the daily demonstrations of old traditional crafts. For example baking, braiding, grill coal production and much more. A course centre is also attached, where several times a year different traditional crafts can be learned.

Every year there is also a theatre play to admire, which is presented directly in the Ballenberg. It is always presented in front of a traditional historical backdrop. By the way, there is also a lake in the open-air museum, Lake Wyssesee. The lake is artificial and disappears completely in summer because of the underground crevasses.

The open-air museum is really recommendable. When you enter the houses, you can smell the smell of the old furniture, the old wood and the interior. That’s what makes it so. You can see, smell and feel the whole atmosphere and feel at home from the very first minute.

Tip

If you go to the open-air museum, then go to the bakery in the morning. Fresh bread is made and baked there every morning and later sold in the farm shop. And you also have to buy cheese, sausage, tea etc.. The quality of the products is unique and everything is made in the open-air museum. Also the production is still like in former times and with the ingredients still on the good old tradition is put value.
