Something about the history of the Grosse Scheidegg
As already indicated, the Grosse Scheidegg is a Swiss pass between Grindelwald and Meiringen. But the special feature of the pass is its passability. For example, you may not drive up with a car without a permit, this is only permitted with a permit and as a resident of Grindelwald. The pass is located at 1962 m above sea level at the foot of the Wetterhorn. In addition an insider fact, the Grosse Scheidegg forms the conclusion of the valley basin of Grindelwald.
Access
As already mentioned the journey with the normal car is not possible. But there is a bus every day, depending on the season. In the summer months it travels every hour from Grindelwald to Meiringen and back again accordingly. In winter, on the other hand, it always depends on the amount of snow. Depending on the winter, it is also possible to take a bus and then toboggan. But this is an exception. In the winter the access is possible if possible also only from Grindelwald. Access via Reichenbachtal is only possible in summer.
Events
The Grosse Scheidegg is also a very popular destination for events. Every year the famous Eiger Bike Challenge takes place on the street. But also a part of the Eiger Ultra Trail (click on the link and find out more in our blog) for the road from Grindelwald up to Scheidegg. Otherwise the road will also be used for many commercials. Maserati, for example, recorded all her social media footage on the route between Grindelwald and Meiringen.
