The Schynige Platte

The Schynige Platte is a beautiful vantage point in the Jungfrau region. With the slogan “Top of Swiss Tradition”, the vantage point offers a perfect experience to dive into the history of the last decades.

Location / Directions:

The journey usually starts at Wilderswil railway station, from where the mountain railway starts. The more than 7 km long cogwheel track can be conquered in about 1 hour and a height difference of almost 1420 metres. And this through beautiful and unspoilt nature and with an impressive view of the surrounding mountains and valleys. You can see the triumvirate of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau from a completely different side. You can also enjoy the view of Interlaken, Grindelwald, Lauterbrunnen and Mürren. In addition to the railway from Wilderswil, there is also the possibility of the high-level hiking trail from Grindelwald-First via the Faulhorn to the Schynigen Platte. However, the trail is only recommended for good hikers, it is quite challenging. The vantage point lies at about 2,076 metres above sea level.

Experience

In addition to the view of the forests, alpine meadows, lakes and other famous landscapes in the Bernese Oberland, there is also an Alpine garden on the Schynigen Platte with over 650 different plant varieties. Perfect for botanists or nature lovers. Some of the plants that can be found in the Alpine Garden can also be found in our adventure garden at Chalet Anemone.

The Schynige Platte cable car

The railway is already part of Switzerland’s history and a must for every railway enthusiast. Since 14 June 1893, the railway has been running up to the viewing platform. Since 1914, the majority of trains have been switched to electric trains, although there is still a large number of cars and locomotives from the old stocks. A ride on the old railway, which is operated with coal, is still possible today. Tickets can be bought online at the Jungfrau Railway or at the ticket office at Grindelwald or Wilderswil station.
